National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches

This qualification is regulated by Ofqual

The NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification in which practical lifesaving skills that may be needed by anyone teaching, coaching or assisting in a controlled pool environment.
The contents of the award include emergency action/ response/first aid, life support on child/adult/baby, water rescue which will include a compulsory 20 metre swim on front and a 20m swim on back, rescue breathing in the water, recovery of a submerged pupil and stabilisation of a suspected spinal injury.The assessment will be based on team work and practical skills. There is no written assessment but all candidates must be confident in the water.

The contents of the award include

The Teacher, Swimming Pool & Class, Intervention, Rescue & Emergency Action Plan, CPR & First Aid. Resuscitation on the child/adult/baby will include. You must feel confident in the water and can swim 20 metres on your front and 20 metres on your back.

Length of Course

16 recommended Guided Learning Hours and is run over 2 day

PRE-REQUISITES

Candidates must be 16 years of age or over and be able to demonstrate the following: Swim 40 metres comfortably (20m on their front and 20m on their back)
Dive to the deepest part of the pool and recover the submersible manikin

Validity of Award

This qualification is valid for 2 years.
